PhD in Economics



HISTORY
The DEA PhD program started twenty four years ago, in 1985, a year later the institution of PhD programs in Italy. Since then it has been known as one of the leading PhD programs in Italy, with PhD students of other Universities coming to attend our graduate courses.
During the years, approximately 180 students graduated from our PhD program. They were mainly Italians, but a significant number from foreign countries (African, Asian, and Eastern European countries).


DEGREE PROGRAM

DESCRIPTION
The PhD program consists of three years. In the first year students are required to attend advanced courses on economics. Students are admitted to the second year of the program upon satisfactory performance in the exams at the end of the first year. The second and third year are devoted to the development of the PhD thesis. In this period students are required to attend seminars organised in the department of economics. At the end of the third year candidates needs to defend their thesis in front of a panel of examiners.

ADMISSION

The Economics Department of Ancona welcomes applications from all countries. The number of available positions for new PhD candidates is variable, but approximately 12 positions are available each year:

  • All candidates: 8 positions are accessible via formal examination, according to the terms and conditions published each year in the "Gazzetta Ufficiale" of the Italian Republic (a translation in English will be available in this webpage). We offer 4 scholarships to outstanding candidates (scholarships are available only through this channel)
  • Only non E.U. citizens: (approx.) 4 positions are available to non-E.U. citizens. In this case candidates should send (by the end of September) a detailed curriculum studiorum consisting (at least) of the following items: degree and awarded university, detailed list of courses taken in economics and their scores, detailed list of texts used in these courses.
